That’s a 22% arrest rate. My guess is that the conviction rate is a fraction of that, most likely falling to 15% or less. Thus, upwards of 85% of those 173 cases were simply being harassed by this organization. That’s a lot of money thrown at an organization with an 85% failure rate…
Parents for Megan’s law? Yay they have absolutely nothing better to do so lets tell on the scary monsters. Please go back to being actual parents….cause you know physically being there will be much more effective than this ridiculous attempt at advocacy for child safety.
Parents are responsible for the safety of their offspring. If their children get involved with drinking, smoking, taking drugs, fornicating, or being a general pain in the neck, then the parents should bear the responsibility: they should be punished. From the legal point of view, it is their responsibility.
Fines and/or imprisonment for the parents are the proper ways to go—-although judges ought to be given wide discretion. Fines and mandatory re-education for the parents; but if their offspring are doing these things, you can’t really pretend otherwise, and so I say, hold the “children” responsible, too: give the judges some standard penalties they can select from to punish and reform them.
Now I hate to resort to outright sarcasm, but let’s face it: these adults in Suffolk County love to put people on government “shit lists” that you can never be removed from. If they fail to do their duties as parents, let them be put on permanant list for “irresponsible parents”. Maybe they won’t like the idea quite so much.
Ok if they are so dangerous that you have to watch there every move, then why are they not in jail if you you think there so dangerous, your not doing this because there dangerous cause most are not and you know it, U.S Government did a study on all of this and the recidivism rate at its highest is 4.7 while crimes from theft to Murder range from 30 to 50 percent recidivism, and this is a U.S. Government study, so this Megan’s Law is not for public safety it’s a false sense of security where none is needed and to make money, plus if it’s reabilitation then why is there no Light at the end of the tunnel, no hope because people don’t care anymore, because they’re not given the chance to prove it, if 20 years passes on a registered offender and misses one time 20 years he is arrested and it’s a felony and they say it’s not a punishment, shut the front door, get real.
